220 volt outlet ac plug is 3 feet too short?

Is it okay to use an extension cord? I only need a few feet. 220volt uses half the amps so wouldn’t it be safer than the people using extension cords in a 110 outlet? Its’s a 3 prong square outlet not the circle type. If anyone knows where I can get a heavy duty extension cord let me know. I only see the cheap ones and I am not sure if they would be appropriate. Halp its hot!
